Two separate projects curated by Tommaso Corvi-Mora centred around contemporary ceramics: both carrying the same title, they presented two views on ceramics in the UK. Talking about his years at Central School in the ‘Fifties – what is now Central Saint Martins – Gordon Baldwins says, in a well-known video interview: “… we did think we were the ones pioneering new areas in which ceramics could exist…”.

Both exhibitions, titled “New Areas” after the above quote, aim to capture the same spirit of experimentation and excitement that is described by Gordon Baldwin: ceramics as an ever-evolving field of research and experimentation.
